The Record Trading Post

Let me introduce you to The Record Trading Post.

It’s not a new idea; actually, it’s a really old one. Early trading posts were settlements or buildings where people could come together to trade their goods and services. They would often spring up along trade routes - near rivers or harbors or railways. In newspaper history, there have almost always been trading post papers. These publications are not dedicated to news, but essentially, filled with messages from person to person. They call out to their community, “Hey, I am looking to hire someone,” or, “I have a something to sell.” It was a way to communicate to a bigger audience than you could ordinarily reach. Now we sense the opposite is necessary. Our reach through technology is almost limitless – with a swipe of our phones we can reach the world. It’s incredible! And often, very effective. Sometimes though, our message gets lost in the noise. We can reach the world, but the world can also reach us. The result is an avalanche of messages, which barrels down over us, and we can miss so much in the immense volume. It’s also true there are many people who do not engage with the online world much, or at all.

Our solution is to bring back the humble trading post. Every week, one whole page is dedicated to you, and your messages to one another. Tell us about your garage sale, or about the baby gear you are ready to sell – or that you need. Let us know if your small business hours change, or if your restaurant is running a weekly special. Do you need help mowing your lawn, or do you want to earn some money babysitting or clearing snow? This is the place for you. The space is yours - at no profit to us. We want to pay it forward. Every month, the proceeds from your listings will go to a local group that serves the community. We won’t charge you for your post, but we suggest a donation of $5. This will run your post for a month - or as much of it as you require. Each month, we’ll start over with a new donation and a new cause.

So cut through the noise and go beyond the reach of technology to your fellow neighbors. Let’s bring our community closer together, one trading post at a time.

Stop by, give us a call, or email us to get started.
